c’est depuis bientôt 40 ans que la mini-édition “out-press”, ou si l’on veut “auto-production”, ou “livres d’artistes”, ou “small press”, ou “selfmade media edition”, produit des brochures d’artistes (avec des artistes invités) en tirages restreints /

fondée en 1973 par colette et günther ruch, imprimée et diffusée parfois en travail solitaire (günther ruch), parfois à deux, c’est avant tout dans le domaine du “mail art” qu’elle prend son matériel /

des feuilles volantes agrafées (parfois photocopiées, parfois tamponnées, parfois faites à la main) envoyées du monde entier, forment le contenu de cette édition et en donnent un caractère expérimental (photocopies noir-blanc, photocopies monocolores, flyers, stickers) familières au domaine du “copy-art” et “correspondance-art” /

chaque participant (une centaine d’artiste internationaux invités pour les brochures thématiques - quelques 400 artistes de tous pays pour le magazine “clinch” - une soixantaine concernant les publications “post-product’s”) a envoyé son document original (pages uniques reproduites, stickers, tampons, timbres, stencils, etc.) à l’éditeur /

ce qui a réuni des artistes de concepts et intérêts différents, n’est pas uniquement le media “pauvre” ni le “mail-art”, mais également l’utilisation de formes alternatives simples: de l’art du tampon au copy-art, de la poésie concrète et visuelle à la poésie sonore, tout en touchant le domaine de l’art “fluxus” et conceptuel /

de 1975 à 1995 c’est environ10’000 cartes postales et lettres qui ont été échangées entre l’éditeur et les (mail)artistes - plusieurs institutions et musées ont collectionné, parfois exposé les publications out-press /

la résonance est surtout dans les différentes formes d’expression personnelles (marginales) de l’éditeur et des artistes participants et du feedback en résultant /

ces dernières années, en complément aux brochures, sont apparues des éditions de dvd ajoutant à la représentation sur papier le son et l’image en mouvement (certains de ces dvd ont été acquis par des institutions et projetés dans le cadre d’évènements particuliers) /

alors qu’une partie de ces documents peut être considérée comme des publications d’art de et sur des artistes (=assembling artists books), une autre partie est un aperçu documentaire sur le phénomène “mail-art” global, avec des secteurs parallèles tels que la “sound-poetry”, le “copy-art”, les “tampons”, la fabrication de “stickers”, l’”artstrike”, la tenue de “congrès” et autres /

tout ceci dans un forme ludique pour les participants mais aussi pour les lecteurs, réalisé lors d’une époque de “petits média” ou “média simples” - out-press est considérée entre-temps comme une pionnière / c’est peut-être la seule - ou tout au moins une des rares - édition en suisse qui s’est occupée pendant 40 ans du domaine du “mail-art” (comprenant la participation et l’envoi d’originaux par des personnalités parfois connues dans le domaine de l’art expérimental) /

postproduct(s) est le nom d'un projet de distribution et parallèlement le titre d'un petit journal / tirage: un exemplaire / comprend quelques 50 numéros pendant 10 ans  / distribués sous forme d'action / parfois comme petits objets tels que des emballages (bouteilles, ballons, flyers, vignettes, avions en papier, et autres) / le tout envoyé à l'adresse d'un récepteur, mais souvent pas arrivé  à destination à cause de l'envoi aléatoire / le journal a été produit sur base de photocopie, et expédié de manière marginale comme  par exemple dans une bouteille jetée dans le rhône en direction de la  méditérannée, comme cartes postales attachées à un ballon... / la majeure partie a aujourd'hui disparu, mais il existe encore une sorte de documentation sur ce projet imprimé et édité en 1988 /

Content of Out-Press relates to assembling processes with particular artists in the MA-network, their workpresentation, the use of marginal print-possibilities, small editions, handmade productions and new ideas through actions, performances, distributions with unconventional methods...- Every contributor to “Out-Press” or “Clinch” received gratis one or two exemplairs, another part of these editions was exchanged in the network with selfproduced books, a third part was sold. Postcards and “Postproducts”  are not included in the list. Printing processes were realized through photocopies, small-offset, rubberstamps and glued stickers.
